Rehabilitating Earth Magazine

Editorial illustration for UK-based climate change magazine focused on diverse perspectives.

For article ‘Bottom Trawling: What do Paloma Faith, Brexit and granite boulders have in common?’ by Amie Williams. Bottom trawling is a method of fishing, also known as “dragging”, that uses a net at the bottom of the ocean. It is extremely harmful to underwater habitat and marine organisms. With sea life as the focal point of this article, you see different kinds of fish across the frame. The centre image of a fishbowl inside a cage represents the imprisonment and helplessness of marine life, one in dire need of legal protection across the globe.

For article ‘COP26: A Political Gimmick to Fool the World?’ by Liya Bensy. While the latest COP26 meeting was meant to be the most inclusive one so far, it ended up being for and by the rich. This graphic focuses on imagery from old scientific journals about nature and geology. Against this backdrop there are images of some animals including fish, which together remind us of the basics of nature rather than the politicisation of it in modern day.
