Unity.jpg

Submission to ‘Culture of Solidarity’ by Fineacts - a European call for illustrations. As a response to the coronavirus crisis, this was a call to collective action, solidarity and unity in Europe; especially in response to growing nationalistic sentiments, authoritarianism and fear of migrants.

This illustration encompasses the definition of ‘unity’ for me which is empathy. The colour blocking style emphasises on the nuances of different cultures and how they understand empathy, a consequence of which is practicing it and potentially changing one’s practice if needed.

The inclusion of children’s books aesthetic, seeing Winnie The Pooh, this notion of empathy also calls upon children and younger generations who are probably even more significant than adults in learning this social-psychological trait in an organic and useful way for a different, a more empathetic, future.

Ebloc copy.jpg

Submission to Enbloc Magazine [issue no. forgotten].

The magazine has no themes and asks for sincerity in all submitted works. This graphic was created about a year into the Covid pandemic, when meeting people was slowly becoming a reality once again.

Cooped up in my home, like many others, in some ways I appreciated having no pressure to go out, meet my friends, and live a ‘happening’ life. It made me realise that even in normal times, whatever that may mean now, the pressure should not weigh down on me. I should only do things that I want to do.

And everything will be fine.
